Exploring Hinduism at the Bhaktivedanta Manor

On the bright morning of 28th March, Year 10 students were treated to a trip to the Bhaktivedanta Manor,   following on from their topic of Hinduism being studied.

After a relatively short coach journey, we were greeted to vast open land, and a beautifully kept wide, garden area. We were taken into the building, and given a Q&A conversation, in which we asked all our questions which we still had regarding about Hinduism. After, we were taken to have ‘carriage’ ride – pulled by a cow! This was definitely a new experience for me, and one which I found, at first, scary, but after was one of the highlights of the trip!

The manor also held a cow sanctuary, which we also visited, and we saw cows and had the opportunity to feed them. This at first seemed daunting since their mouths were huge, but most of us had the tongue of a cow scrape our hand and pick up a carrot!

We were then led back inside to the building where we all got the chance to dress up in traditional Indian clothes – girls were given saris to wear and boys were given a shawl and a Hindu turban. The girls were taught how to put sari’s on and we all helped each other out! By the end of it, we all were looking great, and lots of pictures were taken!

After being led into a Hindu ceremony which we overlooked and saw one of the many praises sung to the Gods, it was time for lunch. And no better than a traditional Indian lunch! And finally to round off the day the girls had the opportunity to have their faces painted and the results were stunning!

Overall, this trip was highly informative, and we all gained a better understanding of the religion in a fun way. We all had new experiences and made us grasp all key facts needed for our exams in the coming month!
