"Exceptional student" wins the Royal Holloway School Physicist of the Year

One of our talented year 12 scientists has had his academic year topped off by being awarded the Ogden Trust Royal Holloway School Physicist of the Year. 

Payas, joined by his teacher Mr Thomas attended the award ceremony at Royal Holloway University on Thursday July 6.

Mr Thomas had nominated Payas for the award following a year where he had excelled through the course. Mr Thomas said: "Payas is an exceptional student, academically gifted and multi-talented.  He has excelled throughout the course, showing attention to detail, huge resilience and determination as well as always displaying a professional manner."

The ceremony also saw other nominated students who were lucky enough to get receive the accolade collect their prize. The audience were also treated to a presentation from PhD researchers background and their current work on using ultra low temperatures (<1 Kelvin), nano-scale electromagnetic devices and SQUIDs (Super-Conducting Quantum Mechanical Interference Devices) to develop imaging systems to surpass MRI scanners. 

The Ogden Trust runs the national award scheme in partnership with a number of universities across the country to encourage them to support schools with talented physics students. Each year a selection of the most promising year 12 students have their work recognised by winning the award.
