First Lego League National Finals

After our success at the “”local”” competition in Winchester in December it was time for the National finals based around the theme of Hydrodynamics ( looking after water supplies for the world’s population). A total of 610 teams had entered across a number of local finals all around the country, we were down to the last 54!

The day started really early, after checking many times that we had robot, batteries, programming tools, core values posters, technical notes, props for the technical presentation back up power points --- we left BGS at 6.30 a.m. to travel to the University of the West of England in Bristol.

Arriving at the impressive exhibition centre at the north end of the campus we quickly made our way to the area set aside for TEAM SCORPION so we could begin preparing for our three attempts on the competition table (each of two and a half minutes). After the opening ceremony just after 9 a.m. we entered the realm of an incredibly well organised day with each of the table tries, the core values (all about team work), project (interacting with experts in Hydrodynamics) and technical presentations (how we got the robot to do what it did) all exactly on time this with a total of 54 TEAMS! In between our appointments with the judges we could book time on practice tables.

After an intense day but with some light hearted compering from our hosts we managed to come 35th on the day, we also managed to beat our local rivals Langley Grammar school who also did well to make it through to this competition.

SO again, well done to Josh L, Rikho L, Ethan S, Marianne C, Salam G, Ibrahim I, Bhaskar N and Aishani S who were representing BGS on the day. Also helping out again on the day thanks to Adnan S, Mr. Featherstone and Ms Gockelen. EXCELLENT WORK!
