A message from Mrs Wrycraft for A Level English students

Year 13 A Level English students create arts for art’s sake...

During the A Level literature course we study Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’, a text famous not only for its hedonistic presentation of Victorian aristocracy, but for Wilde’s famous introduction where he suggests that ‘All art is quite useless’ and explains that we should only enjoy art ‘for art’s sake’. In the spirit of this ideal Year 13 embarked on a project to represent the characters from their studied text.

Gingerbread was acquired and creativity explored, then the art was enjoyed for its own gingerbready sake. Yum. Year 12 -  Can you guess which characters from the course are represented here?

We’d like to wish all our students a happy future and every success in their exams – and remember, reading is a lifelong habit that enriches every part of your world…
