Hard work, effort and attention to detail and the needs of individual students over the past two years has paid off as year 13 students celebrated the best set of A Level results in the history of Burnham Grammar School.

Strong results were gained across all departments, with the overwhelming majority of students winning places at their first choice universities, but a significant number also trading up to the very top universities in the light of their excellent results.

Telemi Emmanual Aina is going to Oxford University to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics, after gaining an A*and 2 A grades. She said: “I’m very excited to be starting Oxford, it is somewhere I have always wanted to go and I’m looking forward to it. It’s nice to know that hard work pays off.”

In addition, 4 students gained places at Imperial College.  This includes Roopali Hothi who is now having to work out celebration plans after getting four A*s and earning her place on the chemical engineering course at Imperial. She said: “When I saw my (UCAS) track I was so shocked, I thought they made a mistake. For the first time in my life I cried tears of joy.”

The year group achieved 69% A* to B rate, and an 90% A*to C rate.

Headteacher Dr Andy Gillespie said: “These results are an excellent example of the hard work and courage of students and teachers to challenge themselves every day and in every lesson across all departments and to learn from mistakes and develop areas of weakness”.

“The determination of the students to do the best they can has gained most places at their first choice universities and higher level apprenticeships.  I am very proud of all that the students have achieved and it is our best set of A level results across all measures.”
