Welcome from the Headteacher

Dr Andy Gillespie, headteacher

Burnham Grammar School’s aim is for every individual student to ‘Embrace Challenge’ on their journey to academic and personal success through both their lessons and the wider curriculum. This success is delivered through each student fulfilling our school aims:

  • Responsible Learners
  • Prepared for the Future
  • Happy Healthy and Safe
  • Caring Individuals
  • Active Citizens

We have a reputation for the pursuit of excellence, and students and staff are proud of our success at GCSE and A level.

“Pupils enthusiastically embrace challenge and enjoy learning here. Pupils, including those in the sixth form, benefit from high aspirations set for them by leaders and staff” Ofsted December 2022

We are a caring school where excellent relationships are fostered and every student is valued.  The diversity of our students is a key strength of the school and we get to know them as individuals to personalise the support they need to tackle their challenges and go beyond their own expectations to fulfil their potential.

“There is a strong focus on supporting positive mental health in pupils and staff.  Some older students receive training as Mind ambassadors” Ofsted December 2022

Our fantastic new building and world class facilities add to our friendly but purposeful environment which produces well-rounded individuals and exam success. We expect our students to embrace the unique opportunities to volunteer, mentor younger students and participate and lead in the wide range of sporting, arts, academic and charity events.

“Students aspire to be young leaders. They desire to be promoted to positions of responsibility. There are many opportunities to take on positions of leadership, formal and informal.” Ofsted December 2022

We have active industrial and corporate partners to extend and enrich our curriculum, provide training and employment opportunities and to help our students to make the right informed and aspirational decisions about their futures.

We want our students to be excited by, enjoy each day and to leave us with the enthusiasm, knowledge, skills and character to enable them to confidently and responsibly take their places in, and have a positive impact on, their local, national and global communities.

Burnham Grammar School is an idyllic learning community where the relationships and teamwork provide the support and reassurance for our students to embrace new challenges and strive to be their very best.
