Getting involved with the first Rivertime Accessible Regatta

Sport is a big part of life here at Burnham Grammar, and this year some of our year nine students were invited to be a part of the debut Accessible Regatta. Tia Benaim who was a helper on the day explains:

"On Wednesday June 14, a group of 16 year nine students spent the day at Bisham Abbey at the first ever Rivertime Accessible Regatta.

"We each had to lead a group of special needs students for the day; taking them bell boating, sailing, cycling, cheerleading, new age curling and more.

"The Rivertime Accessible Regatta was organised by the Rivertime Boat Trust together with Give Them A Sporting Chance, they aim to make this an annual event in the boating calendar, inspiring other organisations and charities to organise similar events and encouraging children and young people with disabilities to develop a long term involvement with accessible sports.

"We were all so glad to be a part of such a wonderful event, with BBC and ITV doing live broadcasts and interviews, and Princess Anne visiting. It was a great day for helpers and participants, we would all love to do it again."

Following the event, our PE department received numerous message from schools who were passing on their praise for our students, from their helpfulness to friendly manner with the participants. Well done to all those who took part.
