Year 12 students attended the National High School Model United Nations trip to New York in March. Here is what deputy head girl, Suhani, had to say about the trip:
"During the month of March, Year 12 had the incredible opportunity to travel to New York and attend the National High School Model United Nations, otherwise known as NHSMUN! After countless hours spent preparing and researching, we were finally ready to embark on this amazing experience of debating, exploring, making new friends and much more. It was definitely an unforgettable six days!
After settling into our hotel from the long flight, we walked straight to Times Square for dinner and time to explore! A rest was surely needed, so we headed back to the hotel, ready to be up for day two!
We started things off early with an open-top bus tour of seeing the city in action and we spotted the iconic Statue of Liberty from across the water. Our next stop was the World Trade Centre and 9/11 Museum, which was a time to reflect and put ourselves into the shoes of those who experienced the scale of the tragedy that caused the world to stand still.
At the NHSMUN opening ceremony we heard from a guest speaker, Michael Richard Pompeo. He shared his views of the current worldly situations and wished us luck for the next few days! Our first committee sessions were an eye opening experience into the issues of the world and the competition we were up against, it was very interesting!
For day two we were up bright and early for a walk through Central Park and then back for sessions 2 and 3, although for committee C34, we had the opportunity of a talk from guest speaker Dr Georgina Holmes! It was a privilege to represent Mexico and meet students from all over America, Europe and even Mexico itself!
Friday was the best day by far! After our tough, final committee sessions and finished resolution papers, we were ready to celebrate! We continued the day with a special sit down dinner with all our classmates and teachers on the trip, definitely a nice way to catch up with everyone and hear all our stories we had from the last few days. Finally the night ended with the annual NHSMUN disco.
Our final morning was topped off with the closing ceremony and an amazing visit to the Rockefeller Centre! This was such a highlight of the trip as we saw the most amazing view of the New York skyline, took loads of pictures, and some of us even rode the beam which was great for our Instagram posts!
I cannot even begin to express how lucky I feel to have gone on this trip, it was a once in a lifetime experience that we will never forget! Thank you so much to Mr Madarbukus, Mrs Wahed and Miss Kazi for all their efforts and organisation to make this trip incredibly special for us, it was an amazing way to start our Model UN journeys!"
