We were very fortunate to welcome Sir Stephen Wall to BGS to deliver an inspiring Careers Talk to our Year 13 students.

Sir Stephen spent 35 years in the British Diplomatic Service, during which he served as British Ambassador to Portugal and as the UK’s Permanent Representative to the European Union. With such an extensive career in diplomacy, Sir Stephen gave our students a fascinating insight into a profession that they may not have considered before.

During his talk, Sir Stephen discussed what diplomacy involves and the role of a diplomat, his life in embassies, including the opportunities and challenges of the role. He also provided insight on the Career pathways into diplomacy and how students can begin preparing for this type of career

Sir Stephen's fascinating experiences from his career and gave students a unique perspective on some of the significant events and developments in modern British history that he witnessed during his time in public service.

Our students were highly engaged throughout the session and asked many thoughtful and insightful questions. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to learn directly from someone with such extensive experience at the highest levels of British diplomacy.
