From Monday 12th - Friday 16th October 30 students from Years 10 and 11 went to Madrid accompanied by Mr Earnshaw-Crofts, Mr Burrows and Mrs Krasner. Feeling fortunate with the weather it was a very successful trip giving the students to experience and view Spanish culture and history in the wonderful October sunshine of Madrid.
Activities included a visit to and tour of the Las Ventas bullring teaching the students about the history and tradition of bullfighting and its continued place in Spanish culture and society, the modern art gallery Centro de arte Reina Sofia learning about the masterpieces of artists including Salvador Dali and Picasso’s Guernica.
Students had the opportunity to practise their Spanish when buying lunch every day including at the Mercado San Miguel and local restaurants and buying souvenirs. Other memorable opportunities to learn about history and culture included visits to the Palacio Real and the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu which contributed to a wonderful week allowing students to make memories which I am sure will stay with them for years to come.
It was, as always, a pleasure to accompany the group who behaved with excellent manners and represented BGS so positively. Many thanks to the accompanying staff for their support.
Mr. J. Earnshaw-Crofts
Assistant Head of Modern Foreign Languages.
