BGS students enjoyed great success at the recent Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad. Great preparation meant the A level students were awarded bronze, silver and gold awards. Students Ashwina and Elizabeth had this to say;

"I am very grateful to have been given the opportunity to enter the Chemistry Olympiad this year. The paper comprised of questions covering A-Level concepts, but the style and detail of these questions tested our ability to apply our knowledge in new ways. As a year 12 student, I was also introduced to topics I have not yet come across, but the support given to us prior to the Olympiad allowed me to get a basic grasp of some of these topics. The Olympiad was a really great chance for me to explore scientific ideas in detail, and has fuelled my passion for the sciences. I definitely recommend participating in the Olympiad next year to any student who wishes to continue studying science beyond their A-Levels."

Ashwina, Year 12

"During the UK Chemistry Olympiad, I tackled a series of demanding questions that really tested how well I could apply my knowledge to unfamiliar situations. The problems were very different from what we usually see in class and really pushed me to break down everything step by step. Although some questions were tough to understand at first, it was a rewarding experience to work through them and finally reach an answer. I was very pleased to come away with a Silver award and the experience has definitely made me more confident in tackling difficult problems."
