Year 10 Berlin Trip

21 Jul 2025

BerlinFrom the 23rd to the 27th of June 2025, Mr Trehy, Ms Appleyard, Mrs Kalid and Dr Gillespie led a group of Year 10 History students on an eye-opening trip through Berlin’s action-packed History. This intense tour took us to the Espionage museum, Sauchenhausen concentration camp, the Olympic Stadium  and the top of the Reichstag building, to name just a few of the historical sites we visited. The purpose of the trip was to focus on two of the main topics in the GCSE exam the German Depth Study and Conflict and Tension (the Cold War). This trip gave us amazing insights into the lives of those who lived in Berlin at that time. From stories of how East Berliners escaped to West Berlin via hot air balloons to the indoctrination and propaganda of the Nazi regime, this trip was full of facts and events. Expert talks given by our own staff as well as external guides truly bring History to life, turning dates and names into real people with real experiences. This trip not only gave students invaluable knowledge of the courses, but also a chance to create new relationships and develop independence. It was also an opportunity to get to know teachers in a way that is not normally possible within the school environment. All in all, this was a truly memorable experience.
