In November 2025, our Year 12 Biology students attended the national Biology in Action conference at the Emmanuel Centre, London, a day designed to strengthen higher-level biological understanding and real-world scientific skills. Through talks from leading researchers and science communicators, students practised evaluating evidence, interpreting data, and linking cutting-edge research to core A-level concepts.
They explored the science behind gene therapy with Bobby Gaspar, analysed how food systems shape human health with Yanaina Chávez-Ugalde, and examined animal communication through seismic signals in Alice Morell’s research. Afternoon sessions pushed students to think critically about medical device innovation with James Piercy and global conservation challenges in Greg Foot’s Rainforest Lab.
The day also strengthened students’ scientific literacy, career awareness, and confidence in applying biological knowledge beyond the classroom.
