Medical Careers Workshop with BGS Alumni Dr May!

This term, we welcomed back to Burnham Grammar School, BGS Alumni & General Practioner, Dr Katherine May, who delivered a Medical Careers Workshop to students within years 10/12/13.

The session was designed to give students an insight into the world of medicine and careers within the health/NHS sector.

Students took part in medical scenarios and were given advice on how to apply to study medicine and applications for medicine. Students had the opportunity to try out different medical equipment in industry and ask for advice about how to become a GP/Doctor.

Please see a small passage from Abeer in Year 13 below about the talk :

Dr May helped me understand a bit more about the day-to-day activities of a GP and all the responsibilities of running your own GP clinic. She brought in a lot of interesting medical equipment such as aneroid sphygmomanometer which was fun to try out. She gave great advice on how to tackle problems on the journey to medicine and shared some of the ones she faced. It made me see medicine in a more realistic way and motivated me to keep trying.

Thank you Katherine for coming back to Burnham Grammar School to talk of your experiences as a BGS Alumni and thank you for supporting our Careers & Aspirations Programme for 2023/2024.
