Last week, the Diversity Ambassadors took part in the ‘Free & Equal’ conference on the topics of: Race, Gender, Masculinity and Feminism.

We listened to speakers about how problematic the phrase Toxic Masculinity is and how gender stereotypes are forced upon us.

From the Conference, we discussed as a group how the school community can change the attitudes and educate ourselves about the effects of Toxic Masculinity and misunderstandings of Feminism.

We believe that these issues can cause individuals to put up a mask, hiding who they are and what they truly believe. For example, are we trying to fit in to impress each other or are we being honest with each other about who we are and what we believe.

This led to a discussion about how we could improve the relationship between staff and students.
