Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place annually on the 27th January, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, and gives us all an opportunity to pause and remember the six million Jewish men, women and children murdered by the Nazis, the millions more persecuted, and all those affected by subsequent genocides.
The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2021 is : Be the light in the darkness.
It encourages everyone to reflect on the depths humanity can sink to, but also the ways individuals and communities resisted that darkness to ‘be the light’ before, during and after genocide. There are also a number of virtual resources you may wish to engage with.
